Madhubani Painting

“Forest of honey” is the literal meaning of Madhubani. This art is also known as Mithila Painting .As per the tradition this art was recognised or became popular during the time of Lord Ram and Sita’s marriage.
This painting was earlier done on mud walls of the huts but now with its popularity the painting is also done on cloth, hand made paperand canvas.
The skill has been passed from one generation to another and the style has not changed with the passage of time. These paintings are usually about nature and the theme usually are related to Hindu Dieties Like Lord Krishna Lakshmi, Tulsi and so on.
Earlier these paintings use to capture special moments and different mile stones in life birth marriages and so on.
Colours derived from plants are used especially ochre and lampblack are used for maroon and black respectively.
